Big Production Recordings Need Big Speakers

  (Item #: tenyeaspac_stereo_love)

A Space in Time is just one of the recordings that made me pursue Big Stereo Systems driving Big Speakers, right from my earliest days in audio. You need large dynamic drivers with plenty of piston area - the kind that can move a lot of air - in order to bring the power of the music to life.

For that you need big drivers in big cabinets, the kind I've been listening to for more than forty five years. (My last small speaker was given the boot around 1974 or so.) To tell you the truth, the Big Sound is the only sound that I enjoy. Nothing less does it for me.

Our Shootout Winner from 2010

  (Item #: tenyeaspac_2010)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

MASTER TAPE SOUND on BOTH sides of this White Hot Stamper copy! Folks, it just does not get any better than this. It’s been more than two years (08/08) since last we embarked on a Hot Stamper shootout for this great album. I always knew it could sound good, but I sure never heard it sound like this! (I said that last time around too you may recall. Two years is a long time in audio. If your stereo and room are undergoing regular improvements, as they can and should be, the sound will be noticeably better every year, dramatically better after two.)

Ranking the Most Tubey Magical Rock Recordings

  (Item #: tenyeaspac_tubeymagic)

This is some of the best High-Production-Value rock music of the '70s. The amount of effort that went into the recording of this album is comparable to that expended by the engineers and producers of bands like Supertramp, Yes, Jethro Tull, Ambrosia, Pink Floyd and too many others to list. It seems that no effort or cost was spared in making the home listening experience as compelling as the recording technology of the day permitted.

Big Production Tubey Magical British Rock & Roll just doesn't get much better than A Space in Time.

Ten Years After - Cricklewood Green

Reviewed in 2010

  (Item #: tenyecrick_2010)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This very nice looking original Deram British Import LP has that good old Heavy British Rock sound. It’s lively if a bit crude, but that’s pretty much the way these bands were recorded. The sound varies quite a bit from track to track, with some sounding noticeably better than others. Not much new there.

’Me and My Baby’ is a particularly good sounding song here. It sounds like it was recorded live in the studio, and it probably was!

Ten Years After - Ten Years After

Reviewed in 2008

  (Item #: tenyetenye_2008)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

I had no idea the band's first album was recorded this well. I expected it to sound something like an old Rolling Stones Decca -- tubey magical but plagued by a fair amount of compression, distortion and limited at both ends of the frequency spectrum.

Ten Years After

... I can only imagine what the very best
copies must sound like ...

  (Item #: tenyeaspac_letter)

Bob here held off for two years before trying a Hot Stamper (or two in this case). When he saw a pair of his favorite albums reasonably priced in our mailer he decided the wait was over and took the plunge. Here is his story.
