Nearly White Hot Stamper

Sarah Vaughan
Dreamy

  (Item #: vaughdream_1810x)

Our Price: $169.99

  • This outstanding pressing earned nearly Triple Plus (A++ to A+++) grades for sound on both sides, nearly as good as our Shootout Winner!
  • Forget the honky originals - our killer reissues of this 1960 All Tube Recording are rich and relaxed, just the way they should be
  • Pretty darn quiet throughout -- Mint Minus to Mint Minus Minus - if you can find a copy in the bins that plays this quiet, count your lucky stars
  • "Trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison contributes some soft, melodic trumpet but the focus is very much on the singer during such numbers as "The More I See You," "Star Eyes," "My Ideal," and "Crazy He Calls Me.""

This is Sarah in her prime - the recordings date from 1954-58. A good overview of her Mercury recordings.

Sarah Vaughan - Sarah Vaughan

Speakers Corner Reviewed

  (Item #: vaughsarah_speakers_corner)

Sonic Grade: B

A TOP TITLE from Speakers Corner on 180 gram. This is an outstanding Sarah Vaughan album with very good sound and top players like Clifford Brown on trumpet, Paul Quinichette on tenor sax and Herbie Mann on flute.

Sarah Vaughan - Sassy Swings Again

Our Shootout Winner from 2015

  (Item #: vaughsassy_2015)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

On side one note how far back in the mix Sarah's voice is. This is her in a big group setting with lots of horns and that group needs to be right in the thick of the action along with her for this music to work.

One of the warmest, richest, smoothest sides we played all day, hence the very high grade. Excellent space and dynamics as well.

Sarah Vaughan - Sassy

Speakers Corner Debunked

  (Item #: vaughsassy_debunk)

Sonic Grade: F

A Hall of Shame Pressing, recorded in 1956 and remastered, badly, in 1999.

The Speakers Corner version of this record is awful. It's bright and GRAINY. If you want a good Sarah record, try the album just called Sarah Vaughan that Speakers Corner put out in 2004.

Check out our Heavy Vinyl Scorecard to read all about the latest winners and losers.

Sarah Vaughan - The Lonely Hours

Our Shootout Winner from 2016

  (Item #: vaughlonel_2016)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

Wonderfully warm, big and clear, not to mention exceptionally dynamic, this copy shows the listener just how good the master tape must be.

Not only could no other copy touch it; as far as I can tell it's the only copy with two sides good enough to put on the site!
