Super Hot Stamper

Ornette Coleman
Something Else!

  (Item #: colemsomet_1811_1902)

Our Price: $99.99

  • With two seriously good Double Plus (A++) sides, this copy was one of the best we played in our recent shootout
  • With its presence, clarity, space and timbral accuracy, this is sure to be one of the best sounding jazz records you've heard
  • Not quite as 'out there' as some others - those of you with a taste for adventurous jazz will still find much to love
  • 4 1/2 stars:"... the most important thing about Something Else! was that, in its angular, almost totally oppositional way, it swung and still does; like a finger-poppin' daddy on a Saturday night, this record swings from the rafters of the human heart with the most unusually gifted, emotional, and lyrical line since Bill Evans first hit the scene."

Ornette Coleman - Love Call

Reviewed in 2013

  (Item #: colemlovec_2013)

EXCELLENT A++ SOUND and QUIET VINYL for both sides of this great Ornette Coleman Blue Note album. Ornette's music clearly isn't for everyone, but you've got to hand it to the guy when it comes to getting good sound on his records. We've heard a number of Ornette records that had excellent sound, the trick is finding the ones that sound good and aren't so crazy musically that there's still appeal to the average audiophile. This one's a bit out there for sure, but we enjoyed it -- the excellent sound throughout helped the music make sense.

Ornette Coleman - The Music of Ornette Coleman

Our Shootout Winner from 2012

  (Item #: colemmusic_2012)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

WONDERFUL SOUND and QUIET VINYL on both sides! We played a stack of these and this was clearly one of the better copies, rating above A+ on both sides. This one has the old RCA tubey magic, that's for sure! The sound is rich, full, natural and warm throughout. I bet you don't have anything like this in your collection -- it's a very cool record!

If you're looking for something different that sounds great and have a taste for adventurous music, give this one a try. We certainly enjoyed it.

Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come

Reviewed in 2005

  (Item #: colemshape_2005)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

This minty avant-garde jazz record has AMAZING SOUND! The recording is by the famous engineer Bones Howe, the man behind some of the greatest pop and jazz recordings of all time. He gets some of that Rudy Van Gelder bite that we love, but with less distortion and more dynamic contrasts. Whether you'll like the music or not is another question -- this is free form jazz; not everybody's into it, that's for sure.

The Ornette Coleman Trio - At The Golden Circle Vol. 1

Reviewed in 2007

  (Item #: colemgolde_2007)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

This is a Blue Note LP with EXCELLENT sound! We didn’t have enough clean copies to do a shootout, but you can be sure that each side rates at least an A+ for sound.

Side one has tons of energy, gorgeous highs and a nice deep bottom end. Side two is rich and full-bodied with wonderfully textured brass. This is a superb copy with sound that does this complex music justice.
