Our Price: $149.99

  • An outstanding copy, with nearly Triple Plus (A++ to A+++) sound on the second side and Double Plus (A++) on the first

Super Hot Stamper

Eagles
The Long Run

  (Item #: eaglelongr_1801_1812)

Our Price: $99.99

  • This copy has a rockin' Long Run like you have never heard, with Double Plus (A++) sound all around
  • The sound is full, rich and vibrant with impressive punch down low and relatively smooth up top
  • The best songs prove that the Eagles were still at the height of their powers in 1979
  • "Overall, The Long Run is a synthesis of previous macabre Eagles motifs, with cynical new insights that are underlined by slashing rock & roll. There's a stark simplicity to the album, especially when compared with the hyperslick Hotel California. Not a collection of hot car-radio singles. The Long Run is easily the band's most uncommercial effort." Rolling Stone

2-Packs

The Best Case for Dramatic Pressing Variations

  (Item #: eagleeagle_2-pack)

Just today (3/16/15) we put up a White Hot Stamper 2-pack of the Eagles' First Album. One of the two pressings that made up the 2-pack had a killer side two, practically As Good As It Gets.

What was interesting about that particular record was how bad side one was. Side one of that copy -- on the white label, with stampers that are usually killer -- was terrible. The vocals were hard, shrill and spitty. My notes say "CD sound. " When a record sounds like a CD it goes in the trade-in pile, not on our site.

Our Shootout Winner from 2010

  (Item #: eagledespe_2010)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock Hall of Fame.

This Original Asylum White Label Pressing has a STRONG A++ side one backed with a KILLER A+++ side two! It's been a couple of weeks since we finished our big shootout for this great album and I still can't get over how amazing this copy sounded. Most copies are too compressed to ever really come to life, but this one is big, bold and dynamic with lots of energy. The bottom end is positively killer on this one.

Listening in Depth

  (Item #: eagledespe_depth)

Presenting another entry in our extensive Listening in Depth series. This is the second-best sounding Eagles record of all time, no doubt thanks to the engineering of our man Glyn Johns. Of course, the best sound on an Eagles record is found on the first album. For whatever reason, that record was left off the TAS Super Disc list, even though we feel that both musically and sonically it beats this one by a bit.

Which Pressing Sounds Better, the Brit SYL or Domestic Asylum?

  (Item #: eagledespe_vs)

Short answer: They both do, or more accurately, they both can sound better than the other. It all depends on how many of each you have.

Harry Pearson famously listed the SYL pressing of this album on his TAS List of Super Discs, but most of them sure don’t sound that super to us! Play enough of them though, and if you’re lucky you just might find one like the one we did -- a lovely Brit Import SYL pressing that has SUPERB SOUND on BOTH SIDES!

Listening in Depth

  (Item #: eagleeagle_depth)

Another in our series of Home Audio Exercises with advice on What to Listen For (WTLF) as you critically evaluate your copy or copies of The Eagles amazingly well recorded first album.

The Eagles first album is without a doubt Glyn Johns' masterpiece -- rock records just don't sound any better! It's exactly the kind of record that makes virtually ANY Audiophile Record pale in comparison. EVERYTHING you could ask for as an audiophile is all here and more.

Our Shootout Winner from 2011

  (Item #: eagleeagle_2011)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock Hall of Fame.

A WHITE HOT side one that was so darn good, we had to break our own rules and give it FOUR BIG PLUSES -- A++++! This side one is a DEMO DISC like you will not believe. When the big chorus comes in on Take It Easy -- one of the toughest tests for side one -- you will be amazed by how energetic and downright GLORIOUS these boys can sound. Believe us when we tell you, it's the rare copy that can pass that test.

DCC Reviewed

  (Item #: eaglehotel_debunk)

Sonic Grade: B+/B-

The DCC -- Not Bad, But...

The DCC for this album is not a total disaster. In fact, the first side of the DCC is one of the better DCC sides we've played in recent memory. We dropped the needle on a few copies we had in the back (pressing variations exist for audiophile records too, don't you know) and they averaged about a B+ for sound on side one. Side two was quite a bit too clean for our tastes -- no real ambience or meaty texture to the guitars, about a B- for sound. To flip something we say often: you can do worse, but you can do a LOT better.

Our Shootout Winner from 2011

  (Item #: eaglehotel_2011)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

TWO SUPERB SIDES -- super transparent, super hi-rez, with tons of energy and tubey magic! We just finished a mega-shootout for this title, dropping the needle on more than a dozen copies, and this bad boy earned Best In Show. Side two earned our top A+++ grade while side one was just half a plus behind. Most copies out there won't come even close to this one on EITHER side.

Rockin' Out to Victim of Love

  (Item #: eaglehotel_wtlf)

Victim of Love is yet another one of our favorite tracks that really comes alive when you Turn Up Your Volume.

It's the sound of this five piece tearing it up LIVE IN THE STUDIO. It's also the track where the DCC just falls apart for us. Where did the rock and roll energy go? The DCC makes it sound like the band just doesn't care, which was certainly not our experience when were playing any of the killer Hot Stampers we came across. Just the reverse was true; we had them turned up full blast and they ROCKED.

Eagles - On The Border

Our Shootout Winner from 2008

  (Item #: eagleonthe_2008)

TWO STUNNING SIDES on this British SYL pressing. You Never Cry Like A Lover and The Best Of My Love have SUPERB Glyn Johns Demo Disc Sound. The LIFE and ENERGY of this copy are going to knock you out of your seat! Most copies left us with a headache, but this one had us begging for more!

The Typical Domestic Pressing Sucks, and Here's Why

  (Item #: eagleonthe_polarity)

This is one of the pressings we’ve discovered with Reversed Polarity on some songs.

The domestic copies of On The Border have many tracks in reversed absolute phase, including and especially Midnight Flyer, a lifelong favorite of mine. The front and center banjo will positively tear your head off; it's bright, sour, shrill, aggressive and full of distortion. Don't look at me -- that's what reverse phase sounds like!

Soaring Guitar Solos and Huge Choruses

  (Item #: eagleoneof_wtlf)

What to Listen For you ask?

That's easy: Soaring Guitar Solos and Huge Choruses.

If you have an exceptionally good sounding copy of the album, One Of These Nights is the kind of record that can really come alive when you Turn Up Your Volume.

Our 4 Plus Shootout Winner from 2016

  (Item #: eagleoneof_2017)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This 2-pack contains the best side one we've ever heard! The sound is bigger, richer, tubier and livelier than we even thought possible. Side one was so amazing, such an obvious step up over every side of every other copy, we felt it deserved to be awarded our "Four Plus" (A++++) grade. One of These Nights, Too Many Hands and Hollywood Waltz will blow your mind on this side one.

Eagles - The Long Run

Our Shootout Winner from 2009

  (Item #: eaglelongr_2009)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock Hall of Fame and another in the long list of recordings that really comes alive when you Turn Up Your Volume.

This copy had sound we never would have expected to hear on this record. Believe me, not too many sound like this one! Most copies have a smeary, veiled, stuck-in-the-speaker quality that makes for some painful listening. Cardboard drums. Non-existent ambience. No energy. The average copy of this album just sits on the turntable with nothing to say.

What to Listen For

  (Item #: eaglelongr_wtlf)

Another in our series of Home Audio Exercises with advice on What to Listen For (WTLF) as you critically evaluate your copy of The Long Run on side one.

Want to know if you have a good side one on your copy? Here's an easy test. Timothy B Schmit's vocal on I Can't Tell You Why rarely sounds right. Most of the time he's muffled, pretty far back in the soundstage, and the booth he's in has practically no ambience. On the good copies he's not exactly jumping out of the speakers, but he's clear, focussed, and his voice is breathy and full of emotional subtleties that make the song the heartbreaking powerhouse it is.

In the Market for New Speakers?

Will They Handle the Size and Energy of Take It Easy?

  (Item #: eagleeagle_speakers)

Another in our series of Home Audio Exercises.

Take one of our killer Hot Stamper pressings with you when you go shopping for speakers. The speaker that gets the POWER and ENERGY of this music right is the one you want. This record will separate the men from the boys thirty seconds into Take It Easy. It will be obvious who's got the piston power and who doesn't.

With big bass and huge scope, this may become your favorite disc for showing your friends just what analog is really capable of.
