Super Hot Stamper

Astrud Gilberto
Windy

  (Item #: gilbewindy_1812_1)

Our Price: $199.99

  • A stunning sounding copy with Double to Triple Plus (A++ to A+++) sound throughout, just shy of our shootout winner
  • Both sides here are super big, full-bodied, clean and clear with tons of energy and a nice bottom end; fairly quiet vinyl too!
  • "... Windy nevertheless proves one of Astrud Gilberto's most consistent and sublime efforts, artfully straddling the division between Brazilian bossa nova and American sunshine pop." - All Music

Super Hot Stamper

Astrud Gilberto
Look To The Rainbow

  (Item #: gilbelookt_1807_1810)

Our Price: $129.99

  • An outstanding copy with solid Double Plus (A++) sound from first note to last
  • This kind of spacious, warm, rich, Tubey Magical analog sound is gone forever - you have to go back to 1966 to find it
  • Creed Taylor (the CTI man) produced, Gil Evans did most of the arrangements, Rudy Van Gelder and Val Valentin engineered - what's not to like?
  • 4 1/2 stars: "This was a beautiful bossa nova record of Astrud Gilberto's vocal stylings..."

Astrud Gilberto - Gilberto With Turrentine

Reviewed in 2009

  (Item #: gilbegilbe_2009)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This is a CTI LP with No Bar Code on the fold-open cover. The music and sound on side two are OFF THE CHARTS! If you’re a fan of Sergio Mendes or Jobim you’re likely to really enjoy this music.

Astrud Gilberto - The Astrud Gilberto Album

Our Shootout Winner from 2011

  (Item #: gilbeastru_2011)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This Minty looking Verve LP has DEMO DISC QUALITY SOUND. It’s airy, open and spacious with a big wide soundfield and excellent clarity. The sound is smooth and sweet with wonderfully textured strings and a killer top end. Sonically this copy is Right On The Money (ROTM) and I can’t imagine it sounding a whole lot better than it does here.

Astrud Gilberto - The Astrud Gilberto Album

Skip the Mono

  (Item #: gilbeastru_mono)

Sonic Grade: F

A great sounding record in stereo, potentially anyway, but in mono the bad sound puts it firmly in our Hall of Shame.

Stick with stereo; the MONO pressings aren't worth anybody's time (scratch that: any audiophile's time).

Yet another public service from your record loving audiophile friends here at Better Records.

Astrud Gilberto - The Shadow Of Your Smile

Our Shootout Winner from 2017

  (Item #: gilbeshado_2017)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

The space is HUGE and the sound so rich. The vocals have dramatically less hardness and the orchestra sounds right for once. Prodigious amounts of Tubey Magic as well, which is key to the best sounding copies. The sound needs weight, warmth and tubes or you might as well be playing a CD.

Astrud Gilberto / Walter Wanderley - A Certain Sadness...

Our Shootout Winner from 2010

  (Item #: gilbeacert_2010)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

LOVELY SOUND AND EXCELLENT MUSIC on this unusually quiet, exceptionally good sounding Verve T-Label LP. We compiled enough of these to do a shootout and this was one of the better copies, earning A++ grades for both sides. It's full of energy with big time immediacy and wonderfully breathy female vocals. The organ sounds gorgeous!

Stan Getz - Getz Au Go Go

Critical Listening Exercise

  (Item #: getz_getza_test)

Another in our series of Home Audio Exercises.

This album is useful as a test disc. The third track on side 2, The Telephone Song, has a breathy vocal by Astrud, soon followed by Getz's saxophone solo. If those two elements in the recording are in balance, your system is working, tonally anyway.

Stan Getz - Getz Au Go Go

Our Shootout Winner from 2011

  (Item #: getz_getza_2011)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

This WHITE Hot Stamper Stan Getz record has the kind of LIVE JAZZ CLUB SOUND that audiophiles like us (you and me) dream of. More importantly, this ain’t no Jazz at Some Pawnshop -- this is THE REAL THING. Stan Getz, Gary Burton, Kenny Burrell and the lovely Astrud Gilberto, the living embodiment of Cool Jazz, are coming to a listening room near you (assuming you have two hundred and fifty bucks you're not doing anything else with).
