The Ames Brothers with Esquivel - Hello Amigos

Our Shootout Winner from 2014

  (Item #: amesbhello_2014)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This copy is super spacious, sweet and positively dripping with ambience. This is vintage analog at its best, so rich and relaxed you'll wonder how it ever came to be that anyone seriously contemplated trying to "improve" upon it.

This recording is the very definition of The Sound of Tubey Magic. No recordings will ever be made like this again, nor will any CD ever be able to capture what is in the grooves of this pressing.

1960 - It Was a Very Good Year

Ray Brown - And The All-Stars Band - Cannonball Adderley

Our Shootout Winner from 2017

  (Item #: brownwitht_2017)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

These two sides offer bigger brass, more transparency and more presence than any other sides we played! This may become one of your favorite big band albums to demo or test with. Or you can just enjoy the hell out of it if you prefer. So transparent and tonally correct, this is a killer sounding copy. We put this one right up there with the best of the Verve jazz titles we've done to date.

This is the kind of HUGE, RICH sound that Ray Hall engineered with tubes back in 1962, and it's glorious to hear in 2017.

Gary Burton
Who Is Gary Burton?

  (Item #: burtowhois_1904_8_11)

Our Price: $99.99

  • Burton's sophomore release finally arrives on the site with outstanding Double Plus (A++) sound from first note to last
  • This is vintage 1963 Living Stereo sound at its best - big, rich, relaxed, tonally correct and full of Tubey Magic - thanks Ray Hall!
  • In this stellar septet, Burton includes veteran musicians Clark Terry, Phil Woods, and Joe Morello, as well as Tommy Flanagan
  • 4 stars: "The playlist is anything but predictable... Although Burton is obviously a very confident soloist, he feels no need to hog the spotlight (a common mistake by young jazz musicians in later decades), as he is happy to step back and let the veterans take center stage."

John Denver - Poems, Prayers and Promises

Our Shootout Winner from 2017

  (Item #: denvepoems_2017)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This original Orange Label RCA pressing was clearly superior to everything we played - it's fuller, bigger and clearer than them all. Superb engineering by Ray Hall. The recording is from 1971 but in some ways it sounds as good as if it had been made in 1961, and that's high praise in these parts.

Paul Desmond - Take Ten

Our Shootout Winner from 2012

  (Item #: desmotaket_2018)

For us audiophiles both the sound and the music here are enchanting. If you're looking to demonstrate just how good 1963 All Tube Analog sound can be, this killer copy will do the trick.

This vintage pressing is spacious, sweet and positively dripping with ambience. Talk about Tubey Magic, the liquidity of the sound here is positively uncanny. This is vintage analog at its best, so full-bodied and relaxed you'll wonder how it ever came to be that anyone seriously contemplated trying to improve it.

Sonny Rollins - The Bridge

Our Shootout Winner from 2013

  (Item #: rollibridg_2013)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

We found STUNNING sound for Sonny Rollins' classic LP The Bridge this week, and as you might have guessed from the image to the left, it wasn't on an original pressing! It's beyond tough to find copies of this album on any label these days, but we had a big stack of pressings from different eras and auditioned them in a big shootout. We've paired up our best side one with our best side two to create this killer White Hot Stamper 2-pack.

Sonny Rollins and Coleman Hawkins - Sonny Meets Hawk

Great in Mono

  (Item #: rollisonny_2010)

WONDERFUL SOUND AND MUSIC! It is ridiculously tough to find copies of this album with good sound and quiet surfaces, but this pressing is a MONSTER. We’re generally not big fans of Mono recordings, but for this music it is really doing the job. It gives you mindblowing presence to the brass and real weight to the bottom end.

Sonny Rollins and Coleman Hawkins - Sonny Meets Hawk

Great in Stereo

  (Item #: rollisonny_2013)

This is a TOP SHELF pressing, one of the most exciting jazz records we've heard in some time! We dropped the needle on side one of this RCA stereo pressing and were FLOORED. After evaluating it completely and awarding it our top grade of A+++, we flipped and were blown away to find that side two was every bit as good. And to top it all off, the vinyl plays quietly throughout.

Think about this -- due to the nature of our business we play tons of jazz vinyl every week, multiple pressings of multiple albums. And this record completely knocked us out.
