Super Hot Stamper

Joe Newman Quintet
Jive At Five

  (Item #: newmajivea_1903_1)

Our Price: $199.99

  • This outstanding copy of Jive At Five boasts solid Double Plus (A++) sound from start to finish - exceptionally quiet vinyl too
  • This Prestige reissue LP is big, spacious, swinging with energy and absolutely jumping out of the speakers
  • 4 stars: "...[this music] is very much in the Count Basie vein. That fact is not too surprising when one considers that the quintet includes three members of Basie's men: trumpeter Joe Newman, tenor saxophonist Frank Wess and bassist Eddie Jones. Joined by the complementary pianist Tommy Flanagan and drummer Oliver Jackson, Newman and his friends swing their way through four vintage standards and a couple of the leader's original blues..."

Super Hot Stamper

Milt Jackson
Plenty, Plenty Soul

  (Item #: jacksplent_1812_1904)

Our Price: $149.99

  • An outstanding vintage stereo pressing with Double Plus (A++) sound from start to finish - exceptionally quiet vinyl too
  • Forget whatever dead-as-a-doornail Heavy Vinyl record they're making these days - if you want to hear the Tubey Magic, size and energy of this wonderful session from 1957, this is the way to go
  • 4 1/2 stars: "The first side of Plenty, Plenty Soul, which features a nine-piece group, is highlighted by the contributions of the exuberant altoist Cannonball Adderley, while the flip side has a sextet that is not hurt by the solos of tenor-saxophonist Lucky Thompson. With pianist Horace Silver helping out on both sessions, these all-star dates still sound fresh and enthusiastic decades later."

Ray Brown - And The All-Stars Band - Cannonball Adderley

Our Shootout Winner from 2017

  (Item #: brownwitht_2017)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Jazz Hall of Fame.

These two sides offer bigger brass, more transparency and more presence than any other sides we played! This may become one of your favorite big band albums to demo or test with. Or you can just enjoy the hell out of it if you prefer. So transparent and tonally correct, this is a killer sounding copy. We put this one right up there with the best of the Verve jazz titles we've done to date.

This is the kind of HUGE, RICH sound that Ray Hall engineered with tubes back in 1962, and it's glorious to hear in 2017.

Sarah Vaughan - Sassy Swings Again

Our Shootout Winner from 2015

  (Item #: vaughsassy_2015)

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

On side one note how far back in the mix Sarah's voice is. This is her in a big group setting with lots of horns and that group needs to be right in the thick of the action along with her for this music to work.

One of the warmest, richest, smoothest sides we played all day, hence the very high grade. Excellent space and dynamics as well.
