Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On The Run

Our Shootout Winner from 2011

A distinguished member of the Better Records Rock and Pop Hall of Fame.

This British Original looking EMI Black Label LP has THE BEST SOUND I HAVE EVER HEARD FOR THIS ALBUM. Most pressings of this album leave a lot to be desired. They typically sound like they're made from second-rate dubs.

A song like Jet can be positively painful on most of the LPs that you run across. Here, practically for the first time, it actually sounds good, with plenty of deep bass that I'm not used to hearing. Following Jet is probably the best sounding track on side one, Bluebird. It's amazingly sweet and transparent on this LP. Like I say, I don't think I've ever heard a better copy.

What Exactly Are Hot Stampers?

Product Detail

This is a TOUGH album to find with great sound and quiet vinyl, but when you get a good one it is a MONSTER. The track list is incredible here, including the title song, Jet, Bluebird, Mrs. Vandebilt, Let Me Roll It, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five -- all great. So many copies we play are either murky or a bit edgy, and it takes a special copy to strike the tonal balance that makes this music sound just right.

What to Listen For (WTLF)

A song like Jet can be positively painful on some of the LPs we run across. On the better pressings it actually sounds good, with deep bass that's simply not to be found on most copies.

Following Jet is probably the best sounding track on side one, Bluebird. It's amazingly sweet and transparent on the best Hot Stamper LPs.

The CD and Heavy Vinyl (WTLF)

The Gold CD that Steve Hoffman mastered for DCC is excellent by the way. None of the heavy vinyl pressings are especially good, although they're better than the typical domestic pressing you might find. The domestic pressings all sound to us like they were made from dub tapes.
